Incumbent Republican Dean Heller (NV-2) has filed his FEC report for his congressional race. The general numbers have been well publicized, as has his $366,932 debt, but there are some other intriguing figures as well.
Heller has been the beneficiary of a total $496,459 in PAC or āother committeeā money. The seat Heller received on the Finance Committee hasnāt yielded any legislation authored by the incumbent Republican to mitigate the current credit crunch, but it seems to have done wonders for his campaign donations. The American Bankers Association PAC kicked in $1,000 on April 16, 2008 on top of their previous generosity totaling $6,000 since March 2007. Deloitte & Touch PAC contributed $2,000 on May 22, 2008. Fannie Mae PAC donated $1,500 on May 21st, and Freddie Mac donated $1,000 on April 29th. J.P. Morgan Chase PAC felt moved to contribute $1,500 on May 30, 2008. The National Venture Capital Association PAC donated $1,500 on April 17th. PriceWaterhouseCoopers PAC contributed $1,000 on April 24, 2008. On May 21, 2008 the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association PAC gave Rep. Heller $1,500 for his re-election bid. The Wachovia Bank PAC also extended $1,500 of its generosity to Rep. Heller on May 20th. Wells Fargo Bank PAC donated $1,000 on May 9th.
Indicating that Rep. Hellerās truly a member of the Grand Oil Party, Chevron PAC donated $1,000 on April 10, 2008. Occidental Petroleum PAC donated $1,000 last quarter, making its donation on February 19th. Valero Energy Corporation PAC donated $2,500 to Rep. Heller on May 21, 2008.
Telecom giant AT&T contributed $2,000 on April 25, 2008, and another $1,000 on June 9th. The Canned Hunt Club (aka Safari International PAC) donated $2,000 on April 11, 2008.
Heller has collected $1,208,363 to date, of which $666,199 came from individual donors and $496,459 from PACs, meaning about 41% of his campaign funds originated from PAC contributions. [FEC]
